If you talk to Athletes who works out or train for any sport, they will tell you that it's not so comfortable at first. Starting a new routine, working muscles that have not been worked in a while, it takes time to condition them, and so, you may have aches and pains in the beginning.
Runners talk about “endurance running” and how at a certain point, they feel as if they could go on running forever, getting into “the zone” where they don't seem to tire out, where it gets easier to settle into their pace. Not only do these athletes ENJOY it, but they look forward to it, working their schedule around the opportunity to push their body, getting almost a “high” from doing it. Running seems to take on a life all its own, and they come to want more and more of it. Some are convinced they will never give it up because of how good it makes them feel.
Well, the same thing can be said of worship; although so few people really know this truth and so they tend to stop way too early to receive “the blessing”. I’m not saying that there is no blessing to the smallest amount of praise and worship. I’m talking about the DEEPER manifestation of His presence when we get out of the “flesh” and into “the spirit” of worship.
When you truly enter into His presence, you will be overcome with a feeling unrivaled by anything you've ever experienced before...and you will not want to leave it. Even with all the tasks of the day that are nagging at you to get done, you are not going to want to get up!
At first, worship may seem rote, like you're just following through some legalistic steps that you feel you must do out of obligation. You thing you SHOULD spend some time in the Word, so you decide to read a little bit, at least 15 minutes a day, and pray for maybe 5 minutes a day before you go to work. THEN what happens? Well, you might be encouraged by SOMETHING you read in the Word...but probably, you stop reading when you feel that at least you’ve done what the Lord is asked of you, not realizing that this IS “your least.” You stop when your “set aside time” is UP...but what you’re really doing is stopping BEFORE IT'S TIME!
We stop before we receive “the blessing.”
We have to be HUNGRY to want MORE!
If you have experienced this scenario before, then you know what I'm talking about, and you know the “point” that I'm referring to, right? I would bet that most of you have a small tinge of frustration when that “point” comes, because in truth, you started this “journey” wanting MORE, thinking there MUST be MORE. You may not know what you expected, but you do know that others are experiencing more, and you want it, too, right?
Years ago, our church had committed a 40-
Jesus’ prayer in the last hours before his physical death, was that His disciples might be WITH HIM where He ALREADY WAS, in the present moment, which is dwelling with His Father, dwelling in His presence and beholding His glory. He didn’t ask the Father to show them the place He would be going to or to show them some future hope. He asked for an hour by hour experience of communion made possible through the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
Father, I desire that they also whom you have given me be with me where I am, that they may see my glory, which you have given me, for you loved me before the foundation of the world (John 17:24).
He knows your heart and He wants to know just HOW MUCH you really WANT HIM. Are you going to go back to your own routine as soon as he starts to whisper to you? Are you going to put your bible away when He doesn't speak fast enough for you? How much of your precious time are you willing to SACRIFICE in order to pursue Him? What are you willing to give up for that time with Him? He wants to know that you really do want HIM and not just to look good to others or that you're just going through the motions because “that's what a good Christian does.” He DOES know your heart; so in truth, He wants YOU to realize how much you NEED Him.
If we want to truly receive something supernatural, if we want MORE of Him, you’re going to have to learn to push past the wall that makes you want to stop, till you “feel the burn.” till it becomes more than uncomfortable. And then, in pushing past the wall, you will flood into blessings too numerous to mention.
The more hungry you are, and the more you pursue His face, the MORE YOU WILL GET! He wants you to pursue him with persistence, and passion, and hunger …and He WILL show up! It's a promise.
Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him" (John 14:21).
ise Continue to praise him, just as the angels do 24 hours a day (Revelation 4:8),
and do it until you feel yourself emptied out, till all focus is on HIM and His goodness
for He IS worthy of ALL your praise. THEN DO IT-
It's going to seem legalistic at worst and peaceful at best, but you're going to feel this “wall” of sorts; but at some point, you're going to have to make a conscious decision to push PAST THE WALL. If it means actually SEEING yourself climbing over or charging through that wall, then do whatever it takes to focus on HIM and “keep running.”
Years ago, my husband and I were going to be baptized during a Sunday worship service. This was important to both of us for many reasons, and we looked forward to it for many weeks. But as we arose that Sunday morning and started to wake our daughter up so that she could be ready in time, she started having a seizure in the top bunk of her bed. I had not experienced that with her before so I was afraid that she was dying! We struggled to get her down safely and then give her a special shot to bring her blood sugar up before calling 911. Needless to say, we did not get baptized that day.
Be prepared for roadblocks. Remember that the enemy is not going to be happy about your new pursuit of the Lord, and he is going to do all he can to put a roadblock in your way. Sometimes during prayer, the phone rings, or when my daughter was younger, she would need me, “desperately,” or other issues would pop up too. I had to get up earlier to keep my “Date with Daddy.” ( Read More about this in the article “Recognize the Enemy...and Build Your Defense.”
Scripture records Moses as having been more meek than any man on earth, yet he boldly asked to be shown more of God. We can learn quite a lot from Moses’ conversation with God in Exodus 33.
Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way,
that I may know You, and that I may find grace in Your sight. And he said, My Presence
will go with you, and I will give you rest. (Ex. 33:13-
Moses asked to be shown God's way, that is, His character and attributes. In
response, God promised to send His presence. This is HUGE! If we want to know who
God is, what He's like and how He does things, we must seek His presence. It's in
His presence we find out about God -
To receive instructions from our employees, teachers, spouse or parents we must spend time with them. The same applies to our relationships with God. The Holy Spirit will lead us all into truth. The Bible says that Jesus will reveal things to come. To be led by the Spirit we must spend quality time in his presence.
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come (John 16:13).
Moses told God that he needed HIS PRESENCE to move forward in the tasks that the Lord had laid before him. He knew that the only thing separating Israel from all the other nations on the earth was the presence of God, and he was NOT willing to leave home without it!
He said to him, "If your presence doesn't go with me, don't carry us up from here.
For how would people know that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people?
Isn't it in that you go with us, so that we are separated, I and your people, from
all the people who are on the surface of the earth?" (Exodus 33:15-
Ask the same of your Heavenly Father. You should not start your day without getting into His presence, seeking his continued voice and guidance. And because you ask...
Yahweh said to Moses, "I will do this thing also that you have spoken; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name" (Exodus 33:17).
So I challenge you to go deeper, stay there longer, and wait. Wait on Him, pour out your heart and then listen for that still small voice. Push past invisible walls to go deeper. Ask for “MORE LORD.”
“MY Secret Door Experience” is a testimony of my own walk through the doorway that brought me into His presence, after waking me with clear instructions on how to do so (thank you, Lord, for your mercy and grace when faced with my tired, crabby, obstinate and grumbling demeanor!).
Below is an example of a prayer (“Power Tool”) that you can use to build your OWN request for even MORE! We stand with you and say “YES, AMEN, Thank you, Lord for it is YOUR DESIRE that we abide in you and know that you will meet us if we only ask”.
Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)
