Physical vs Emotional
vs Spiritual Healing.
When He was conceived in the womb of Mary, the angel Gabriel told her
to name her child “Yeshua [Jesus]”, a name that means “Yahweh Saves”. The angel
then gave the same order to Joseph. In Hebrew, “yasha” means to “bring 
wholeness,”
“to heal” -
Jesus claimed that He was fully aware of His vocation during His first sermon in the synagogue:
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news
to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the
captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed, and
to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." He closed the book, gave it back to
the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him.
He began to tell them, "Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."
(Luke 4:18-
I heard it once said that Jesus is not Lord where He is not Savior. While I know that God sheds His grace on ALL people and that He sustains EVERYTHING (Hebrews 1:3), and that EVERYTHING and everyone belongs to HIM (Job 41:11 & Ezekiel 18:4), I also know that it is by God's grace that anyone even wakes up the tomorrow morning, Christian or non Christian. So while it is His desire to heal, it's his first and primary goal to have you “His”, heart, mind and soul.
“HEALING”...IS HEALING, for the broken, whether in spirit or body. It's God's desire to heal ALL....NO ONE ELSE heals on earth. Men may lay hands on you, pray for you and proclaim healing (because that's what he word says to do) and He shows mercy where he wills (Exodus 33:19), but it is still His desire that ALL be healed. The time is NOW:
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; (Isaiah 61:1)
There are several different kinds of healing needed and this is what I want to address here. I believe that Spiritual Healing ...restoration onto HIM...is more important to Him than any other healing.
Spiritual Healing
He may show grace on you in the area of physical healing if you do not choose
to follow him or give glory to Him. Jesus healed 10 lepers who cried out to him
on his travels in Luke 17:11-
and he said, "If you will diligently listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, and will do that which is right in his eyes, and will pay attention to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you, which I have put on the Egyptians; for I am Yahweh who heals you." (Exodus 15:26)
Everything is Scriptures points to a main focus: that we be with Him in paradise. Jesus is the doorway and it's His first and foremost desire that ALL would come onto Him. It's a relationship He wants, for us to be with Him in Paradise, that NON would be lost.
The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
So “Spiritual Healing”, is a right relationship with Him, crucified with Him, a new creation, with your name written in the book of life for all time, abiding with him now while you live on earth, giving glory to Him and living for Him, where you also join into His fellowship and and “team” of warriors for the “advancement of the Kingdom”.
if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Spiritual sickness is SIN. The spiritual healing is Salvation. Because God desires that ALL be saved, everyone who repents and calls on the Savior Jesus Christ who shed His blood on the sacrificial alter for ALL sins, receives spiritual healing. He is the doorway to everlasting life: God's FIRST CONCERN for all.
Emotional Healing.
There are many kinds of healing that is needed emotionally and they can be an obstacle to receiving Salvation, so we can know that God is very concerned about these.
Most emotional and mental illness is due to SIN once again: the sin of another against us and the consequence of our own sin. Examples of these are bitterness, anger, depression, anxiety, etc. Since God's word says to put away such things, we know that we CAN put away such things and they are healed by His power and glory, for the asking, through submitting and through repentance / renouncing of sin.
Some examples of the first kind is serious mental illness that one is not born with but has come through chemicals or personal trauma. There are other kinds of mental impairments from varying developments of the brain but let's be clear about something here; God NEVER WOULD or COULD create someone who could not receive Him, communicate with Him or understand him.
About a year ago I was in a Walgreens picking up something, and I stood in line for the longest time behind a woman who was sharing her ministry to the check out girl as far as her working with handicapped people in her church. I smiled and looked down, not wanting to indicate that I was listening to her, but something in my spirit rose up in me when she shared how she “just does crafts” with “these slow learners” (she did a “wink wink” kind of thing, not wanting to call her group “retarded) during church service because “they can't really understand what's going on”.
“Excuse me, I don't mean to overhear you, but nothing could be further from the truth!”, I tried to encourage her, “God doesn't create ANYBODY who can not come onto Him and commune with Him.” I continued, “ Be encouraged, speak His Holy word often to them...” She interrupted: “OH! BUT you don't UNDERSTAND! These people CAN'T understand that...” and I urged her that He CAN do that for them; “ because even though you may not see what they are understanding, HE CAN enter in and reach their mind, HE can do it ALL, we just need to be obedient and not stop sharing His word! PRAY with them often too, lead them to the throne where they can receive from HIM”...
She did receive me and I prayed right there for her ministry with this small group outside before she left.
Remember we are ALL made in His image. God is STILL the “answer” for all illnesses,
hindrances, impairments, and those who are not even of the mind to “choose” Him may
need ministering to with prayer and His Holy and Power-
The good news is for the mentally ill, and the good news is the inclusion and the acceptance of mental illness as part of that humanity in which Jesus came to us. Mentally ill persons are made in God’s image. They are fallen sinners. They are loved by God. They are saved by grace, through God’s faithful promise and the gift of faith. They are called to follow Jesus Christ, to live, die and be resurrected in him.
In this, the mentally ill are exactly like ourselves. Their humanity is another way in which Christ is present to all of us who seek to know Christ and to serve him faithfully in our generation. We do not know what God is doing. Jesus healed many mentally ill and also called demons to come out of them. HE knows what to do and He will guide and do what He wants to but we have to be faithful to what He has asked of us.
Physical healing.
This is a toughie, because while Jesus healed all that came to Him, we often do not see physical healing, at least, not as we would like to see it, which is the whole world healed, happy and pain free ...right? Physical pain is hard to understand because of the actual pain and suffering that for the most part, we see no reason in nor did we do anything to believe warrants us. So unfair. Right?
All of God's words on Healing (See Healing Promises), as I have said before, is for ALL healing. Jesus said by His blood we are healed (Isaiah 53:5). It's just cruel it seems, to speak about the “reasons” one may not receive physical healing but this again falls into the Lord's court.
I have had a curved spine most of my life, and then fused so it didn't get worse, but I can testify to the kind of pain that makes one crawl to the bathroom screaming because just breathing is excruciating. I know I would have done many things in my lifetime that were outside the will of God had this issue not brought me to the throne.
Could God have straightened my back or healed it completely? You but. But he has continually brought me to the “end of myself” in and through it, shown me compassion that I could pour out to others that I never otherwise would have received, shown me mercy when I did not deserve it, brought me to rest in Him when I would have run to other cares of the day, and I could go on.
The More I trust Him: the more I seek His face; the more I get into His word of Power and truth; the more I obey and repent, the more I call upon the blood of Jesus over every living cell in my body and STAND on that, claiming who I am in HIM, the more I can do all that I need to do
For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite. (Isaiah 57:15)
Bad days see heating pads and ice packs, but I can do more than I could before, and He has always brought His provision when I cannot provide for myself (nor get the government to do it!) His grace is all I need and I would SO rather be at peace and rest in Him with trials all around me than be frustrated and anxious when things are going on smoothly in my life. This is not my home. It brings me to the brink of having to live in the supernatural as far as trusting the Lord for ALL things but that is where He wants us anyway.
Proclaim the captives FREEDOM -
The Healing Ministry continues on as we were also sent to Proclaim freedom for the captives, for those sick and in bondage, and to demonstrate the Kingdom of God through healing and deliverance.
Read: “He healed them all”, which shows exactly the extent that Jesus healed all who came to him.
“He said to them, "Go into all the world, and preach the Good News to the whole creation.
He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who disbelieves will be condemned.
These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons;
they will speak with new languages; they will take up serpents; and if they drink
any deadly thing, it will in no way hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and
they will recover." (Mark 16:15-
He didn’t mention any exceptions. He didn’t qualify His command by saying “they’ll get well if…or…unless it is my will that they suffer gracefully…or even “they will get well unless I put something on them to teach them a lesson. He promised the WHOLE CREATION! That is for you and anyone you know who is sick!
He Healed “as they went”.
God can heal in an instant and God heals gradually, but he always heals in response to prayer ...But he does it in his time, and in his way! Remember the 10 lepers he healed? Well they were not healed immediately but God's word gives the account of them being healed “as they went”. Not before...not after, but as they went.
One could smell the disease a quarter of a mile away, it is said, this disease was ravaging, with sores everywhere, deformed arms and fingers bitten off by rodents, and while tragic to comprehend, I’m sure that the 10 had resigned their life to this horrible state. Can you imagine how they felt? I'm sure they were looking at each other to see when they could see any signs of healing in the other as they walked, not very confident that healing was really theirs. I know I would feel that way.
It was the act of Faith that allows us to RECEIVE that healing. People came to Jesus in droves looking for healing. Jesus did not just walk into a town and start pointing fingers but He responded to their cries for help. These 10 lepers were healed in spite of their doubts, because of their obedience to trust His word and receive.
We must realize that God's timetable for healing is not the same as ou
rs, but
that He is ALWAYS doing something in our lives and is trying to direct us onto HIS
“game plan”. He has not abandoned nor forsaken you and as you draw deeper into the
Lord's presence, He WILL show you what He is doing.
Yahweh, he it is who does go before you; he will be with you, he will not fail you, neither forsake you: don't be afraid, neither be dismayed. (Deuteronomy 31:8)
He is able to heal in an instant but he may also choose to direct you to another for ministry, therapy, counseling, surgery, diet, etc. We need to be listening...and seeking His face above all else. Jesus is Lord and God, savior, healer, and redeemer. God wants to heal. You can depend on that! So in ALL cases we must never grow tired or stop praying that we may be healthy in mind, body and spirit. He healed ALL who came to Him!
pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God
in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:17-
